What can you actually do when working online?

and a deal that's too good to miss 👩‍🏫

Hello adventurer đź‘‹

Happy hump day!

It’s week 8 of my accountability challenge with my friends (we’re all sending one newsletter a week until we are all in Chiang Mai together again).

I’m actually going to get there this Sunday!!! I’m very excited, but I don’t really feel ready as there’s a few bits in Ireland that I’d like to stay for a few weeks to wrap up.

I’m getting a little sentimental, and things have actually been quite nice at home - I’ve had some great business opportunities, I’ve been hanging out with cool people and I’ve been playing football. All of which has made me pretty happy.

But I guess this is the life of someone who’s unsettled and whose heart belongs in different places of the world.

Following on from last week’s first steps to set up an online business…

I spoke about starting your OWN business, but if you want to work online, there are more options that becoming a service provider.

So, let’s delve deeper into some of the things you could be doing online to earn money and travel (if that’s what you wish to do).

  1. Teaching English as a Foreign Language

If you’d like to teach English online, or move abroad to Europe, S. America or Asia, and teach in a school, the best way to do this is to do a TEFL course. The minimum requirement for becoming a TEFL teacher is a 120-hour course (use code EV16 for 16% off the current discounted price).

(the great deal is here hehe) If you’re not sure… the TEFL Institute of Ireland are running a sale for a taster, 30-hour teach English online course, for 5 euro until the end of TODAY. You can get one here.

The above links are affiliate links, but as you may know, I personally spent 1 year teaching in Thailand and it changed my entire life! So I would highly recommend if you want to work online, move abroad or earn some extra income.

When I taught online, I used the platform Preply and it was pretty easy to find students.

  1. Become an online service provider

I outlined the first steps to starting an online business in last week’s email.

Once you identify your why, define your services, create a client avatar and pinpoint your unique selling point, it’s time to come up with a business name, set up an Instagram account, buy your domain, set up a professional email and start thinking about branding.

Think about the brand colours you want to use (check out colour psychology to gain a deeper understanding of what feelings certain colours evoke in customers), the meaning you want to have behind your logo (I would pay someone professional to do this, but if you have a good creative eye, you can probably design this yourself too) and start thinking about how you will market yourself.

Using Canva for creating graphics is a great starting point to ensure you have a cohesive brand online, but it’s also really important to define your content strategy.

How will you actually appeal to your clients?

Some other things you’ll need to set up in the background are invoice templates, contracts, a portfolio to showcase your work, a Calendly (or similar) account for potential clients to book calls with you, a Google Drive account for document sharing and onboarding documents to ensure a smooth process for new clients.

If you’d like support with this, I offer 1:! coaching calls to help you through the process. You can book one here.

  1. Affiliate marketing

If you are a content creator, or if you are growing your social media presence, I would recommend joining some affiliate programmes for products you already use and enjoy.

This will then allow you to promote these products on your social media channels through unique links and generate affiliate income.

This is not the easiest way to earn a full-time income, but it could be a good way to start and learn about affiliate marketing.

The first two are ways I have actually earned decent money online and lived abroad for the majority of the last 3 years, so if you have any questions on those, DM me on Instagram and I’d be happy to help. I also do have affiliate links, but they are a tiny part of my income.

Some bits you may be interested in

I’m hosting a group trip to Nepal! It will be from 16-27 April and if you’re interested in joining, pop in your email here to be the first to know when it launches.

There’s a paid online community on the way. I will teach you how to start a business and you’ll be part of a community of people who want to do the same. Fill out this form to be the first to know when it launches.

Teach English online or move abroad and teach with TEFL. All courses on tefl.ie are 16% cheaper with code EV16.

Don’t forget to get travel insurance if you’re travelling! You can start your SafetyWing policy at any point of your trip, even if you have left your country of origin.
