September round-up: the inside scoop

long time no chat šŸ‘‹

Hey adventurer! šŸ‘‹

Happy Wednesday, and happy October!? (is that something to be happy about? 😄)

Wow this year has flown by. šŸ›«

But… I’m back in Asia to skip my 5th (!!!) Irish winter 🄳 ā„ļø

So, let me fill you in on what’s been happening…

  • I had two weddings (I do wedding content) to finish off my wedding season for 2025. I’m back again in April, for another busy summer of weddings. I LOVE IT! šŸ¤

  • I went to Delphi Resort in Connemara with some friends on a PR trip, which was a lot of fun! 🄳

  • I flew back to Da Nang in Vietnam for a few weeks to see friends and do a crazy running challenge šŸ‡»šŸ‡³

  • Completed said crazy challenge (4/4/48 David Goggins challenge), and I am still recovering. 🄱 Running 4 miles (6.44km) for 4 hours every 48 hours after flying for more than 24 hours and not really sleeping for 2 days, and then not sleeping for another 2 days during the challenge broke me a little.

Reflection: the fact that I actually did this shocked me! 😨

First, it wasn’t that big of a challenge in my head.

When I started it, I was like ā€˜ah I’ll do a few runs, prob skip the 2am ones’ (there were 12 altogether), but then…

    I just kept going.

Eating, napping, getting up, running, ice bathing and doing it all over again.

The thing I was most sick of… showering 🧼

12 showers in 2 days gets boring šŸ’¤

  • Since I’ve been back in Da Nang, I’ve been running, playing volleyball, pickleball and drinking 2 coffees in my favourite coffee shops daily. ā˜•ļø It’s a simple life, but I didn’t go ā€˜travelling’ and I think that’s what most people confuse my nomad life for. I’m just moving somewhere to live a similar (but better šŸ˜‹ and cheaper) life that I do in Ireland.

  • And I’ve also been crafting a comeback strategy for Instagram as I currently feel I don’t know what to post and then I overthink it and then I just don’t post. I’ll be back soon, cause I’m setting up an accountability group chat with my friend AND I’ve done some brainstorming and strategising, which makes it so much easier to feel like you’ve got your sh*t together. Keep an eye out over the next (6?!) months hahahahah, nah I’ll be back sooner. I hope šŸ¤ž

On that… travelling vs being a digital nomad

It’s easy to see the lifestyle of a digital nomad as ā€˜constant travelling’.

But I think there’s a lot of misconceptions out there about the nomad lifestyle.

Travelling is about moving from place to place with the goal of seeing and experiencing as much as possible. You’re in holiday mode, short-term, fast-paced, and often a bit of a whirlwind. Nomads may sometimes do this, but it’s either at the beginning of their business, they’ve taken time off, or they slow down slightly and work for part of the day, while exploring for the rest.

Being a digital nomad, on the other hand, is about creating a life that balances work with new surroundings. Most of us actually want to slow down, because travelling alongside working is exhausting. We often spend weeks or (more likely) months in one spot, finding our favourite cafƩs to work from, joining gyms, forming friendships, and building routines.

Being a digital nomad is not a holiday, it’s a lifestyle.

A lifestyle where you work from your laptop, a cafĆ© or co-working spot is your office, and your backyard could be anywhere in the world. šŸŒšŸ’»
